A Few Words About Us

Serving Charlevoix since 2014

Smoke On The Water was a “pipe dream” for co-owner Julie Mann. Her husband and co-owner, Ed Mann is a self-employed plumber, has joined Julie in her dream to open a restaurant. Ed is from Charlevoix and Julie is from St. Paul, MN. Julie fell in love with Charlevoix the first time she visited with Ed in 2001. They both knew they wanted to retire in Charlevoix.

In 2010 Julie got a job with Ameriprise Financial in Minneapolis and they allowed her to work distant remote. In other words, she could work from home in Charlevoix! Ed arrived in September of 2011 with all of their things and critters and set up house. Julie arrived on December 31, 2011. Exactly two years later on December 31, 2013, they signed the papers to purchase the restaurant. They opened for business on Memorial Weekend, May 23, 2014.

Julie started smoking food on her Webber grill. Later they bought a small smoker and honed their skills. They knew if they were going to really go for their dream, they needed a large smoker. They found one in Athens, GA and made the trip down to pick it up. What a trip that was! Ed found an alternative route home and they ended up smoking the Dragon’s Tail.

They are very proud of the food they serve as almost everything is made from scratch. Great food, consistently prepared brought to you by good and friendly servers is their standard.

Our Food Policy

We believe that all food that is served within our restaurant should consist of the highest quality ingredients and be prepared from scratch. With over 90% of our food being made from scratch, eat confidently knowing our food is sourced from only the finest ingredients.
